24,000 Hours: R&D Film

In June 2025, we began a 2 week research and development process of a new piece of dance theatre that focuses on the experience of people with disabilities and long term health conditions in the UK healthcare system.

We interviewed 10 disabled people and documented their experiences, to create a verbatim script that goes alongside movement created in the room. From the interviews and personal lived experience of the team, we wanted to focus on the social and medical model of disability, the idea of wellness, difference, trauma, waiting and community.

This short film is a proof of concept and a snapshot of what we hope will grow into a full-length stage production. We’re proud to share this film with you and invite you into the process. We hope you enjoy it!

I Am Steven Gerrard

‘I know that it does sound weird to say, yeah? But I proper envy Steven Gerrard. You know, the football player?’

It’s Liverpool. The Champion’s League Final in Istanbul was 13 years ago. The buzz is still rife. The obsession is still real. Steven Gerrard has left Liverpool Football Club, but his legacy keeps on growing; a legacy that Shane wants to embody and emulate.

Though Shane shares an ambition no different to many of those around him, it soon transpires that he yearns for something far beyond football. And in a city where ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ is the mantra, why does Shane constantly feel like he’s the only one on the sideline?

Shane is back home to see his dad for the first time in three years. To heal old wounds. To attempt to find his place in a world that he has never felt a part of. To get answers.

What secrets will come to light? And who will they come from? Could these revelations have saved everyone from heartache?

Following sell-out runs at The Hope Street Theatre and Liverpool’s Royal Court, I Am Steven Gerrard is back at The Epstein Theatre, September 2025. Written by Sean McLoughlin, directed by Amy Roberts and starring Joe Cowin.

It has nothing to do with football. It has everything to do with football.
